Are You a Good Candidate for a Butt Lift?
You would be a good candidate for a butt lift if you have excess
skin along your buttock and seek a youthful elevated butt
appearance. You may notice that your butt has a droopy look where
your butt cheeks meet your upper thighs. You may have lost a
significant amount of weight that left your butt with hanging skin.
You may have had a firm well-toned buttock but with the normal aging
process, it has lost its skin tone. The butt lift surgery addresses
all these issues. A butt lift can be performed starting age 21 if
there was significant weight loss that resulted in loose skin in
this area. Otherwise candidates opting for a butt lift are usually
over 40.
Preparing for Your Surgery
Before your surgery, Dr. Metwally will perform a complete evaluation
with you to discuss your goals and determine the best procedure for
you. He will then explain to you your procedure in great detail and
answer all your questions. You will need to arrange for someone to
drive you to and from our center the day of the surgery. You should
wear loose fitting clothes and bear in mind that your outfit may get
soiled. Do not wear jewelry, contact lenses, or bring valuables to
the operating room. Remove all body jewelry from pierced body parts.
Duration of the Surgery
It takes Dr. Metwally 2 to 3 hours to perform a butt lift according
to the level of correction done and whether or not liposuction will
be done with it.
Anesthesia Used
The surgery is usually performed under general anesthesia (you will
be asleep throughout the procedure). It can also be performed under
Regional Anesthesia (anesthetic injected in the spine, similar to
that used in child birth) where only the lower body loses sensation
but you will be awake. In this case you will be given sedation which
will make you relaxed and drowsy. You will be ready to leave after 3
to 4 hours from the completion of your surgery.
During Your Surgery
During your surgery if liposuction of the lower body contour is to
be done, the liposuction is usually done first. For the butt lift an
incision is made very low on the back, just above the buttocks. Then
Dr. Metwally proceeds by removing the excess skin from the buttock
area and tightening the skin over the buttocks. The final step is
suturing the incision.
After Your Surgery
For the first 3 days, you are likely to feel discomfort, which can
be controlled by medication. Dr. Metwally will prescribe to you an
antibiotic along with a pain killer to prevent infection and
alleviate pain. Your buttock area will be swollen. The swelling will
subside gradually over a period of 10 days to 2 weeks. There will be
some dressing on the incision for the first 5 days and you will be
seen every couple of days for changing the dressing. After that you
will be asked to wear a compression garment for 3 weeks. There will
be drains to evacuate any fluid that may come out after the surgery
for almost 1 week after which you can shower. Most people are ready
to go back to work 1 week after their surgery. Strenuous activities
and vigorous exercise should be avoided for a minimum of 4 weeks.
Stitches are removed after 2 weeks. Your buttocks will feel very
tight for the first week. Temporary numbness particularly just below
the incision is common for at least 2 months.
Seeing Your Result
Even though you will have dressing on your butt, you will still be
able to see that your butt is firm and stretched. Once done with
your surgery - as always - some swelling will build. This swelling
will subside over a period of 10 to 14 days. As more time passes the
swelling will totally subside and your butt’s new shape will appear.
According to Dr. Metwally’s observation of his own patients, they
usually see their final result after 8 to 12 weeks. The scar often
becomes redder for several weeks after surgery and begins to fade 2
to 3 months later. It takes 12 to 18 months for the scar to reach
its final appearance, while now there are products available at Dr.
Metwally’s center that you can use to make the scar fade faster. The
result from a butt lift is usually everlasting unless you gain or
lose a significant amount of weight.
